Paper Marbling at the cre8ery "At cre8ery there’s always something going on! In what was once an 8800 square-foot factory turning out cabinets, counters and upholstery, you’ll now find artists’ studios, generous exhibition space and a large open area where workshops can be held. It is here that well-known book artist Janet Carroll recently introduced a group of us to the ancient decorative art of marbling on paper. Marbling originated in Persia in the 1400s, spreading from there to Turkey, Greece, Italy, Spain, France, England and now, after a circuitous trip around North America, marbling is here at last! At her workshop, Janet introduced us to the many variations in marbling patterns, and to some of their exotic names: Turkish Stone, Chevron, French Snail, Nonpareil, The Peacock… Rumour has it that Janet will soon be running another marbling workshop at the Cre8ery. Keep your eyes peeled for further notices. What’s on? Come and visit!" -Jocelyne Scott |
